Dear Readers
Well, what a January we have had! But horrendous weather
does seem to bring out the best in people, with neighbours and
complete strangers ready to lend a hand and even have a chat.
What a shame that when the show and ice disappears so does this
outbreak of friendliness!
Perhaps with Valentine’s Day coming up there’ll still be love in the
air. We have a fabulous competition where you can win a special
‘Turkish Delight’ treatment at Harrogate’s historic Turkish Baths. It
could be a super Valentine’s or Mother’s Day gift.
Home town boy Alan Bennett’s The History Boys is at the Playhouse
this month and we had a quick word with the director, Christopher
Luscombe. Headingley is gearing up for its third LitFest and
Horsforth for its second Beer Festival. Younger Life flags up half
term theatre fun, the Leeds Young People’s Film Festival and
student achievements. You can also read about a new cash-back
scheme for people who use ‘clean energy’; Swarthmore Education
Centre’s free conference on the future of adult education, with
Hilary Benn as one of the speakers; and the Community Pages are
packed with things to do.
In our March issue we’ll be looking at Mother’s Day traditions, Irish
History Month, venturing into the garden again and the Easter
Holiday. Our deadline is 1st February, so do send in your news and
notices on time.
Kind regards.
Jack and Carole
